For those of you who read the blog regularly, I'll sum this post up: I finished the album writing/recording challenge. For the rest:

February is Album Writing Month. The good folks at FAWM.org and RPMchallenge.com both offer up a challenge to write and record a new album in the shortest month of the year. FAWM asks you to write 14 new songs. RPM Challenge asks you to record at least 10 songs or 30 minutes of new material into a new album. In 2011 I attempted these challenges for my second time, set on getting 14 songs written and recorded in the 28 days of February.

The last time I did these challenges, I named the album “Februum,” the Latin term for purification from which the month is named. The origins of the phrase come from a ritualistic act of purging from Lupercalia, the Pagan festival from which Valentine’s Day was eventually derived. I wanted to use this wording again for this second attempt at a romantically creative purge.

As with before, it’s hard to mine gold when rushing against deadlines, especially with music. But, I do enjoy some of these songs. As I finish the 2011 challenges, I feel good about the experience and results.

I hope that you’ll find something to enjoy on “Februum 2: the February Strikes Back.”
